The binding and covering process takes place within a climate-controlled facility in order to prevent warping. Each smyth-sewn, 48-page signature is sewn together with just the right amount of thread tension to achieve ideal spine flexibility. Finally, cold-setting glue is used for maximum lay-flat properties.
Cowhide over Board
Each piece of cowhide is carefully processed in a sustainable, low-waste facility where it is first limed (cleaned and trimmed) before being tanned, shaved, re-tanned, dyed, dried, and then buffed. Finally, every piece of leather is measured and meticulously inspected by hand.

The wooden slipcase for the leather-bound edition is handcrafted by Amish craftsmen in Northern Indiana using rich, black walnut harvested from sustainable forests in the Eastern United States. Using character-grade wood preserves the inherent sapwood (or soft outer layer) elements of the material in the form of knots, burls, and wavy grain patterns. Individual pieces of wood are then joined into the form of a box with hand-cut dovetail joints.
Wood species | American Black Walnut (juglans nigra)

Cloth over Board
The cloth over board case has six tracks specially fitted for each volume, to support the book block and help it preserve its shape over time. The sturdy protective cardboard case—printed with metallic gold foil—keeps the set intact and displays beautifully on a shelf or desk.
